Becky,

That was a good write up. Have you anything on Branding of Service. I am working on that. May be I can share my thoughts with you. Have you any suggestions for customer retention in car service business?

Thanks, Teri! I really appreciate your encouraging words and for taking the time to comment. As you mentioned in the quote from the teacher, actions make all the difference in building relationships. When we look at our actions from the point of view of the other person/customer, we see how it can impact the relationship (and in the case of a business, loyalty and advocacy).

This customer care and follow up is the most important ingredient and well copied by many businesses. Any sales person in most any field would be helped by copying the ideas you have shared here. One teacher once shared it is not what you do but how you make people feel that will develop loyality and referrals.

Martin, thank you for your comment. I think branding has a tough part to play; as you say, there is a certain stigma, at least here in the US, associated with a car dealership.

A customer-focused branding campaign, similar to what Longo Toyota in Los Angeles has done, could help but only if it is accompanied with honest-to-goodness great customer service and positive word of mouth. It is a big hump to get over, but it does seem doable!

Patrick, glad you liked the post. I think I could have gone on for awhile, but it was getting late and I had to stop. ;-)

Let us know if you end up getting a Toyota down the road. I think I would get one for my next car, possibly a Prius!

Lewis, I have disliked the experience since about 1987, when I was jerked around by a car dealer (happened to be Toyota, actually, but I don't hold that against the company - just the dealership group!). The Saturn car buying experience was great back in the early '90s, but their customer service now leaves something to be desired (at least in San Diego).

The internet sales/Costco buying program is what we used this last time, and it took a lot of the headache out of the process, but not all of it. We need a major revamp here!

Thanks for your comments, Lewis. :-)
